What to Consider When Purchasing Granite Countertops?

Granite is made up of silica, obsidian, mica, quartz, feldspar, plus several other natural minerals. People that pick granite countertops

over other choices like laminate, corian, or silestone, do so due to its distinct appearance. Every granite slab comes with its own unique crystals, various colors and depth. Granite will never lose its brilliance or color. The one that is used to create countertops can be found in different parts of the world, such as Brazil, China, Italy, United States, Sri Lanka and Norway.

The price varies depending on the square footage, plus other factors, like, edging and back splash selections. Round 6.35 mm bevelled edges are common. A customised edge will be more expensive. However, these countertops are known to be very durable. Keep in mind that this material will not come with a warranty due to the fact that it is natural stone. However, the installer will issue a warranty with the installation.

Substances which are not good for granite countertops

are mustard, wine, oil, and any acidic chemicals. But, granite is resistant to heat and does not blister, scratch, or split with normal use. It can be cleaned using warm water and dish soap. There are special stone cleaners available too. Never use abrasive cleaners.

Granite has to be resealed if moisture seep in, not beaded up. They have to be resealed at least once a year. Some experts advise twice a year application of a paste wax. No special training or expertise is required to reseal such countertops.

If part of a countertop have to be replaced for some reason, it will never match the original one. But, most expert installers attempt to avoid seams. They will usually come with some extras in case they need to be replaced. The location greatly depends on the layout of the countertop, plus any support it could require. Seams are usually filled in using color coordinated epoxy.
